4.0 Description of Functions (Graphtec Command Set)
This chapter describes the functions of the Graphtec command set. For a description of the functions of other command sets, see Chapter 7, "DESCRIPTION OF OTHER COMMAND SETS."
4.1 The DIP Switch Functions
The DIP switches determine the default settings of the digitizer (the settings that will take effect when the digitizer is initially turned on). Before connecting your digitizer to a computer, be sure to check the settings of the DIP switches.
(1)Settings of DIP switch 1

(4)Description of DIP switch 1 functions
- Data output format:
- The output format of the data to be transmitted to the computer (coordinate data and flag data) can be set to one of three output formats: ASCII, BINARY-1, or BINARY-2.
- Resolution:
- Using bits 3 and 4 of DIP switch 1, the resolution of the coordinate values can be set to one of four units: 0.1 mm, 0.025 mm, 0.005 inch, or 0.001 inch.
- Data Transmission mode:
- Using bits 5 through 8 of DIP switch 1, the mode for data transmission can be set to one of four modes: Remote, Point, Stream, or Switch Stream. For the Stream or Switch Stream mode, one of four data output rates can be selected.
(5)Description of DIP switch 2 functions
- Terminator
- The terminator indicates the end of a block of data in ASCII format. Set bit 1 of DIP switch 2 to select either LF (Line Feed) or CR/LF (Carriage Return + Line Feed).
- Data Length
- The number of bits per character can be set to seven or eight bits.
- Parity Bit
- When the parity check is enabled, the number of even or odd bits being transferred is verified during bit transmission. Either no parity (NONE), even parity, or odd parity can be selected.
- Stop Bit
- A stop bit indicated the end of a character during data transmissions. Either one or two stop bits per character can be selected.
- Baud Rate
- Selects the data transfer rate as the number of bits to be transmitted per second. The baud rate can be set within a range of 150 to 19200 bits/second.
(6)Description of DIP switch 3 functions
- Coordinate pointer
- Enabled use of the cordless cursor or cordless stylus pen
- Beeper mode
- The settings of Bit 5 determines whether or not the beeper is sounded when a button on the coordinate pointer is pressed.
- Bits 6 and 7 select the digitizer's operating mode
- Your digitizer comes set to normal mode. Change the setting of these bits only if you wish to perform an interface test or self test. After the test is completed, make sure to select normal mode again.
(7)Factory Presets
Your digitizer comes preset to the default settings below.
